Blago- What’s next???

As readers of mine know, I have written much about ex governor Rod Blagojevich and what he should have done. Last summer I wrote that in my opinion Blago should have cut a deal and saved the taxpayers and himself a load of money and time. Now, as we find out, Blago is going to have lots of time to think about this mess.

Today Blagojevich was convicted of 17 counts of various Federal charges. All felonies, all-serious. He is looking at 8 years if he is LUCKY. We will find out when he is sentenced in a few months. But now, Blago will not be permitted to travel without court permission and will begin what is known as post conviction supervision. Blago will have to check in with a probation officer and submit to various rules. No more reality TV and no more games. Well, probably one more game- an appeal.

Blagojevich is the second Illinois governor in a row to face Federal Prison and corruption charges. Blago will also probably start to have his lawyers produce all kinds of alternative sentence proposals and mitigating circumstances. For example, a forensic mental health evaluation etc…

Blago is a prime example of a person whose ego has led them to prison and a great example of a person who was in need of an incarcervention. For a man who loves the media he sure seems lucky. This media coverage is not positive and yet many people are too busy with the Tot mom Casey Anthony story to pay attention. But, by the time a Blago sentencing comes around we will all be watching.

Where Blago serves his jail time will be the next hot topic in the rumor mill otherwise known as inmate.com. Blago- the offer still stands- CALL ME. You need a good prison coach.

At least we have BLAGO!!!

May 2011 in Chicago has brought some sadness and anxiety for those who were Oprah fans. But, alas. At least we have BLAGO. Well, for now.

As the defense case in the re-trail of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich rolls on, the entertainment and big names keep coming. Or, at least the names are supposed to. We did see current mayor Rahm Emanuel take the stand briefly and are promised more are to come.

Blago is everything that is wrong with our criminal justice system. First and foremost he shows just how unwisely the U.S. spends our money on criminal prosecution’s that have gone off track. Remember, that last summer Blago faced a similar trail. At that trial he was found guilty on one of the 24 charges and the jury was hung on the others. So, this time around Blago has asked that the Feds pay for his legal bills. That means us! How is this possible? Well, Blago says he is deeply in debt and is due the same treatment as others who cannot pay for a defense. And, in the spirit of equal justice, that is true. But, isn’t it another crime to take advantage of the taxpayers you have already ripped off by your lack of public SERVICE?

So, Blago, this insider urged you to make a deal and get on with the show last summer. But, now you really are boxed in. Not even “Celebrity Apprentice” or other reality TV can fix this mess. One good note- I will work with you for FREE in the spirit of positive change. You know my number, call me! 1-866-229-8264.

Lawrence Taylor and Richard Hatch- EQUAL JUSTICE?

The cases of LT and survivor winner Richard Hatch are back in the news this week. Yet, both have very different outcomes. Hatch, who had troubles making the transition from Federal Prison to a Halfway House, has now been sent back to Federal Prison on a probation violation for tax evasion. This is predictable because it was evident he did not learn anything inside. He began re offending in small ways at the Halfway House. For those who do not understand what a halfway house is, in Federal Cases if the defendant serves more than a year in prison, he will always be sent to a halfway house upon release for a period of time.

In the case of Lawrence Taylor, he received his sentence for having sex with an under age prostitute. LT received NO JAIL time and six years probation. He will also have to register as a sex offender, but the level of offender has yet to be determined.  This after LT has had many encounters with the law and prison system. How many chances should he get???

SO, two cases, very unequal justice and two offenders who are ripe to do something again. The first way to explain this is simple- FEDERAL vs. STATE. Federal cases have more scrutiny, stricter probation and obviously a uniform system. States have just not caught up. In the current case of LT, there is of course the matter of an underage age girl. But, our system does not treat these situations tough enough, just as we do not treat repeat DUI cases tough enough. This must change. First step, sentence people to more community service. It’s free and helps everyone involved.

This insider knows that there is no such thing as equal justice. But, by speaking out, maybe this too will change. Like I always say. Change is possible with hard work!

The Top Ten Predictions from this Insider for 2011

As 2010 comes to a close, I would like to share my top predictions for 2011 as well as recap a few key events from 2010. As we all know, 2010 was a year of change and recovery. This is a good thing in many ways. While the economy is getting better, more changes are coming. 2010 brought us the incarcerations of Madoff as well as the final stages of the investigations into others involved. We also saw rapper T.I. violate his probation and return to prison, while Michael Vick continues to go strong on his road back.  We saw Lindsay Lohan receive an appropriate alternative sentence, while Charlie Sheen continues his cry for an INCARCERVENTION! 2010 also brought election changes that will take effect in 2011. 2011 should be full of more of the same and some new twists as well.

1-    There will be criminal charges brought in the BP Gulf oil disaster. Remember the wheels of Justice turn slowly, but they do turn.

2-    Wall Street Hedge Funds and Insider traders are the big “get” for the D.O.J .in 2011. Look out!

3-    Celebrities will continue to get in trouble. But, this year we may see some courts begin to be creative in their sentencing.

4-    Election results in California, where there is a huge problem with the prison system, will result in positive alternative sentencing and more education for Judges and courts. The new Attorney General Kamala Harris is tough but understands the need for rehabilitation in most cases.

5-    The country will continue to become educated to the facts that most people in custody are coming out-and soon. Through programs like CNN Heroes shining the light on people like Susan Burton, 2011 will be a year of change  and understanding in our criminal justice system.

6-    Wesley Snipes will continue to complain about his prison term while he is in Prison!

7-    Andy Fastow, remember him from ENRON, will be released from Prison.

8-    Blago will be re-tried and eventually go to Prison.

9-    Our new Supreme Court will show us what they are really made of as they try to hand down Equal Justice.

10-Dr. Drew will find himself in need of an INCARCERVENTION!

Good-bye to 2010 and hello 2011. This insider is ready.

Hell no, Blago… Not again.

Today a Federal jury in Chicago found former Governor Rod Blagojevich guilty on a single felony count. The jurors on the other 23 more serious charges were deadlocked. In some cases the deadlocks were 11 to 1 in favor of conviction. But after millions of dollars spent on prosecution and investigation, we are left with this. Really??

SO, what does this mean in simple terms? Well, for one thing the prosecution was over-confident and arrogant. Something that is usually said about defendants. In this case, Blago was too but that was to be expected.  After all he did appear on Celebrity Apprentice ,and his wife was on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. This makes Sarah Palin’s reality dreams seem reasonable.

But, in very simple terms, our criminal justice system is the big loser. In Chicago alone, violence and drug crimes are out of control. This money could have been better utilized had the feds thought about the reason they were prosecuting Blago and how best to do it. When he was arrested, Blago was called a crime wave that needed to be stopped by the US Attorney. Funny, since his alleged “crimes” are on tape. What was so difficult? We must get our State and Federal governments to work better together and prioritize and BUDGET.

As for Blago, he was found guilty of making a false statement to the FBI. Martha Stewart went to jail for this. He most likely will too but not for years as he awaits a retrial and an appeal. If Blago were my client I would tell him to cut and run. Make a small deal with little jail time and move on. There are more TV and books to do. Be a hero, save the government some money and himself and start making positive changes. My guess,  he will not do it. He loves the drama of it all.

Blago, call me. Work out a deal and go to club fed for five months. It will be good for you. In the meantime do some community service and help someone else for once. It will make you feel better.
